Moodle site formats
The site format determines the overall layout of a subject site. The format provides a general structure for adding activities and resources and forms the basis of how you and your students will navigate the site.
Selecting a Moodle site format
The selection of site format depends on your teaching context and the type of content (activities and resources) you will have on your subject site. There is no one perfect solution; however, with the limitations and benefits of the possible formats in mind, you can make design decisions that will benefit the students in providing a simple and easy to navigate learning experience.
Some key design considerations to factor into your selection include:
- How easy is this site layout to navigate as a student? For example, can students easily find the Subject Outline and assessment task information? For more information on evaluating the layout of your site, see the Previewing your site as a student article.
- Can you make your content more accessible by reducing the number of clicks or excessive scrolling required to find key information?
- Is the information logically grouped? For example, consider whether to group content per week/topic/module, or group all workshop content together and all lecture content together.
- Does it satisfy accessibility requirements? For example, if key information is shown in the tile layout pictures, is there equivalent alternative text? For further information on accessibility within the online learning environment, please refer to the Inclusive learning & teaching collection.
