renAIssance
Renewing education for an AI-enabled future
The UOW renAIssance program is a whole-of-university initiative to renew learning, teaching and student success for an AI-enabled future. Aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan, the program will strengthen academic quality, assessment integrity, curriculum coherence and institutional capability for AI-enabled education, while supporting improved student progression and retention.
Why renAIssance?
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the foundations of higher education, transforming how students learn, how educators design and deliver learning, and how universities assure quality and integrity.
Students increasingly expect immediate, personalised support, educators require new capabilities, tools, and pedagogical approaches, and industry is rapidly integrating AI into their practice, redefining the capabilities expected of graduates.
Realising the opportunities of AI requires a systematic, values‑led approach that balances innovation with educational quality, integrity, and inclusion.
The renAIssance program establishes an intentional, integrated program of work that prepares the University for the next era of learning and teaching, while ensuring our commitment to educational quality, integrity, and student success remains strong.
The Six Domains
The program brings together six core strategic domains that represent the essential conditions for educational quality and student success in an AI-enabled era. These domains address the key system components that shape the student experience and academic practice.
- Assurance – Strengthening institutional assurance that UOW degrees meet regulatory, industry, and student expectations in an AI-enabled environment.
- Assessment – Refreshing assessment practices to ensure integrity, authenticity, and relevance in AI-rich learning environments.
- Success – Enhancing learning, belonging, and confidence through personalised, scalable support enabled by responsible AI.
- Capability – Building educator capability and confidence through structured professional learning, peer leadership, and AI-informed teaching approaches.
- Employability – Preparing students for an AI-shaped workforce by strengthening academic–industry partnerships and translating AI-related shifts into future-ready curriculum design.
- Design – Establishing UOW’s learning design principles, expertise, and practices for an AI-enabled era to ensure inclusive, high‑quality, future‑ready learning experiences.
Priority Projects
Each domain is activated through a priority project:
- Course‑wide Assurance of Learning Mapping (CALM) – Assurance
- Assessment Reimagined – Assessment
- AI Study Buddy – Success
- Cogniti Champions & Conversations – Capability
- AI Professional Practice Co‑Lab – Employability
- Learning by Design – Design
These projects advance these areas collectively to lift quality, reduce friction across the system, and position UOW for sector leadership in responsible AI-enabled education.
Program Delivery and Timeline
Delivery of the program will follow a coordinated and highly visible institutional process to ensure clarity, transparency, and shared ownership. It will be launched through University‑wide communications, open online and in‑person information sessions for all staff, outlining the purpose of the program, the six domains, and the priority projects.
The program will culminate in UOW renAIssance Week, a university‑wide showcase held in November 2026 featuring sharing of project outcomes and emerging practices from UOW students, academic and professional staff.
The renAIssance outputs will inform the development of the UOW AI‑Enabled Education Blueprint, articulating a clear, University‑wide position on AI in learning and teaching and guiding institutional priorities and actions for the subsequent three years.
