Requesting a Moodle site

Moodle sites are an integral part of learning and teaching at UOW. There are a variety of different Moodle site types, but they are all created through the UOW Learning Platform Management System (LPMS).

In LPMS you can request the following types of Moodle sites (adapted from IMTS KBA Request your Moodle site via LPMS):

  • A Subject site is for sites that have students enrolled in one or more subjects or subject instances in SMP. Student enrolment into the Moodle site is based on their equivalent subject enrolment in SMP.
  • A Project site is available for staff users and is not linked to any subject instances in SMP. Project sites are useful as a sandpit for staff to create and experiment with activities, resources, and Moodle functionality.
  • A Teaching resource site may be utilised in addition to a subject or course site to deliver additional activities and/or resources. An example of use for this type of Moodle site is as a repository of activities and/or resources that may be used across multiple subjects, so rather than duplicating the content in separate subject sites, students can be referred to the common Teaching resource site for particular activities and/or resources. Student enrolment into the Moodle site is based on their equivalent subject enrolment in SMP.
  • A Training site can be used to create Moodle sites to accompany fully online or blended training and professional development offerings to staff. Self-enrolment (with or without a password) can be set up for this type of Moodle site.
  • A Research site is for use by HDR students and/or research teams. Student enrolment into the site is based on their equivalent enrolment in SMP.
  • A Course site can be created for access by students enrolled in a group of subjects, usually in the same degree program. Student enrolment into the Moodle site is based on their equivalent subject enrolment in SMP.
  • A CPDE (Continuing Professional Development Environment) site is reserved for use by the Learning, Teaching and Curriculum (LTC) unit within the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) portfolio. These sites are used in the delivery of the UOW Continuing Professional Development program.
