Moodle Gradebook overview
The Moodle Gradebook displays all grades and feedback for assessable activities in a subject site. Each subject site has its own Gradebook, and results from activities such as assignments and quizzes appear automatically.
Why?
The Moodle Gradebook benefits both students and teaching staff. For students, it provides a central location in the subject site to view grades for each assessment task, without needing to log in to Student Online Services (SOLS).
For teaching staff, the Gradebook organises student grade information in one place, improving clarity and transparency. For offline assessment tasks, you can import marks or enter them manually, apply weightings and calculate totals within the subject site. Gradebook data can also be imported into the Student Management Package (SMP) to facilitate efficient marking workflows.
How?

By default, the Moodle Gradebook is enabled. If you are unable to view the Gradebook or access from the Site settings menu is hidden, it may have been disabled.
To enable the Gradebook:
- Select Settings from the Site settings menu.
- Set Show gradebook to students to Yes in the Appearance section of the settings.

- Click the Save and display button.

- Select Gradebook setup from the dropdown menu.

Note: For information about how to set up the Gradebook, refer to the Setting up the Moodle Gradebook L&T Hub article.
Understanding the Gradebook layout
Once the Gradebook in your subject site is set up and organised, the information is laid out as follows:
- The first column indicates the name of each Activity and the Categories they are grouped into.
- The second column displays the item weight.

Note: Moodle automatically calculates weightings, so the total is always 100%. - The third column displays the maximum grade, which is the raw score that is allocated to the activity.

- The Grade category total displayed at the bottom is the raw total of grades taken from the activities.

- The Site total is the sum of the raw scores from all activities.
