Accessibility

Note: This article is part of the Inclusive learning & teaching collection.

Accessibility focuses on increasing access to learning experiences, such as activities and resources in a subject site, and improving navigation. Accessible learning experiences benefit all students by reducing barriers to engagement.

A universally accepted set of standards, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) provides a framework for measuring the accessibility of online content.

Inclusive design

Inclusive design supports the University of Wollongong’s Accessibility Action Plan by offering strategies that go beyond compliance. When learning experiences are designed inclusively, they are inherently accessible and cater for the full range of human diversity.

The Inclusive Learning & Teaching collection includes articles that define inclusion in online content and provide practical guidance for designing inclusive experiences, as well as definitions and strategies.

Brickfield Accessibility Toolkit

In addition to this design first approach, the Brickfield Accessibility Toolkit is available via the Learning Platform to find and fix accessibility issues in your site.

Additionally, Brickfield provides staff and students with the ability to request and generate materials from the site in alternate formats, providing the flexibility to engage with the materials in a manner which best suits their need at the time.
