FeedbackFruits

0:05
FeedbackFruits is a suite of tools available in the UOW Learning Platform that can be used to facilitate collaboration, engagement, and effective feedback.

0:14
The suite is made up of several tools that can facilitate different types of activities and assessments.

0:20
It offers flexibility to have students work individually or in groups, and the interface is simple and consistent from one tool to another.

0:28
There are lots of ways FeedbackFruits can be used in your teaching.

0:31
For example, having students submit multimedia such as video, audio, images, or PowerPoint slides directly into the FeedbackFruits assignment review tool, allowing you to provide feedback in context on a video submission.

0:46
Feedback can be tied to a time stamp in the video.

0:49
FeedbackFruits is also a great option for facilitating peer review.

0:53
Students can submit individually or in groups and then review their peers work against a rubric with the Group Member Evaluation tool, Students evaluate their own contribution and that of their group members against marking criteria.

1:06
You can then use this information about student contribution to inform adjustments to individual student grades if necessary.

1:14
The Skills Review Tool can be used to provide feedback and facilitate marking where the students do not need to upload any submissions, for example an in class presentation.

1:23
The FeedbackFruits tools can also facilitate collaborative review of a material or resource.

1:28
For example, you could upload an article to the Interactive Document Tool and have students engage with it by responding to discussion threads or questions pinned to specific sections of the document.

1:39
Similar activities can be facilitated using the Interactive Audio and Interactive Video tools.

1:45
There are many other ways that FeedbackFruits can be used in your teaching.

1:49
Comprehensive guides for staff and students are available on the Feedback Fruits website at help.feedbackfruits.com.

1:56
It's important to remember that FeedbackFruits is one of many tools available in the UOW Learning platform.

FeedbackFruits is a diverse suite of educational tools available in the UOW Learning Platform, which can be used for a range of different contexts, including:

  • formative and summative assessments
  • individual and group evaluations
  • synchronous and asynchronous activities
  • multimedia submissions

These tools are designed to support the provision of quality feedback while developing foundational skills such as self-reflection, critical-thinking, and collaborative learning, all of which contribute positively towards student engagement.

As these are external tools connected to the Learning Platform, a Student Privacy Notice is available in the IMTS Knowledge base.

Why?

Addressing previously identified gaps in the Learning Platform, the FeedbackFruits suite of tools provides viable options for educators wanting to incorporate opportunities for peer review of submissions, group member evaluation and multimedia submissions.

Additionally, the tool suite provides alternative options for educators looking to facilitate active learning experiences, small group tasks, discussion on work or topics and more within the Learning Platform using supported tools.

FeedbackFruits’ emphasis on critical reflection and feedback encourages students to engage in higher-order thinking about their work to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This process can uplift student learning outcomes while developing a mindset for continuous learning in the future.

Use cases

Some examples of how the FeedbackFruits suite of tools can be used effectively include:

Note: For a more comprehensive list of tools and use cases, visit the FeedbackFruits resource, FAQs: What Tool Is Best For Me?.

Submission of Multimedia:

The Assignment Review tool can be used to collect and assess multimedia submissions from students. We are then able to provide both qualitative and quantitative feedback directly on the video/audio, helping students to precisely understand what they’ve done well and where they can improve.

Peer-to-peer feedback:

The Peer Review tool can be used to facilitate structured peer feedback. Students will review each other's work, provide constructive comments, and receive guidance on how to improve their own work. This promotes collaborative learning and self-reflection while alleviating time constraints.

Note: Guidance is available in the Designing peer feedback and review opportunities article.

Participation in Group work:

The Group Member Evaluation tool can be used to assess individual contributions to group tasks, enabling students to evaluate their peers’ overall input. This can allow for the informed adjustment of grades based on a Group Contribution Factor, ensuring the fair assessment of each student based on their participation.

Note: Guidance is available in the Evaluating group member contributions article.

Peer Feedback of in-class presentations:

The Group Member Evaluation tool can be used to collect feedback on in-class presentations, allowing students to share feedback using predefined criteria. This can engage students in collaborative discussions, while all students involved can be graded based on the comprehensive oversight provided for each step of the process.
