FeedbackFruits
FeedbackFruits is a diverse suite of educational tools available in the UOW Learning Platform, which can be used for a range of different contexts, including:
- Formative and summative assessments.
- Individual and group evaluations.
- Synchronous and asynchronous activities.
- Multimedia submissions.
These tools are designed to support the provision of quality feedback while developing foundational skills such as self-reflection, critical-thinking, and collaborative learning, all of which contribute positively towards student engagement.
As these are external tools connected to the Learning Platform, a Student Privacy Notice is available in the IMTS Knowledge base.
Why?
Addressing previously identified gaps in the Learning Platform, the FeedbackFruits suite of tools provides viable options for educators wanting to incorporate opportunities for peer review of submissions, group member evaluation and multimedia submissions.
Additionally, the tool suite provides alternative options for educators looking to facilitate active learning experiences, small group tasks, discussion on work or topics and more within the Learning Platform using supported tools.
FeedbackFruits’ emphasis on critical reflection and feedback encourages students to engage in higher-order thinking about their work to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This process can uplift student learning outcomes while developing a mindset for continuous learning in the future.
Use cases
Some examples of how the FeedbackFruits suite of tools can be used effectively include:
Submission of Multimedia:
The Assignment Review tool can be used to collect and assess multimedia submissions from students. We are then able to provide both qualitative and quantitative feedback directly on the video/audio, helping students to precisely understand what they’ve done well and where they can improve.
Peer-to-peer feedback:
The Peer Review tool can be used to facilitate structured peer feedback. Students will review each other's work, provide constructive comments, and receive guidance on how to improve their own work. This promotes collaborative learning and self-reflection while alleviating time constraints.
Participation in Group work:
The Group Member Evaluation tool can be used to assess individual contributions to group tasks, enabling students to evaluate their peers’ overall input. This can allow for the informed adjustment of grades based on a Group Contribution Factor, ensuring the fair assessment of each student based on their participation.
Peer Feedback of in-class presentations:
The Group Member Evaluation tool can be used to collect feedback on in-class presentations, allowing students to share feedback using predefined criteria. This can engage students in collaborative discussions, while all students involved can be graded based on the comprehensive oversight provided for each step of the process.
