United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the Learning Platform
The University of Wollongong (UOW) is actively working to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). In 2019, UOW signed the University Commitment to the SDGs, affirming its dedication to promote the SDGs in learning and teaching, research and operations.
UOW is committed to embedding the SDGs in its educational offerings to ensure our graduates are informed global citizens who are equipped to contribute to these global goals.
Subjects at UOW that align with one or more of the SDGs are recorded on the SDG subjects and courses webpage, contributing to UOW’s global rankings in sustainability. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Teaching Framework outlines how to nominate your subject for inclusion on this site and formalise its alignment with the SDGs.
Signposting SDGs
Subjects addressing the SDGs are encouraged to clearly signpost this on their Moodle site to raise student awareness of the alignment. This can be done by adding the official United Nations SDG goal images to your subject site. In the example below, it has been added into the Subject Information section of the site.
How?
To add the SDG icons to your subject site:
- Download the SDG Icons from the official Sustainable Development Goals website.
Note: Multiple download options are available. Those labelled (Web) are advised, as these are optimised for web use.
- Extract or unzip the file to access the images.
- Determine the appropriate placement within your site. For example, do the SDGs apply to the entire subject, or only specific modules/weeks?
- Upload only the relevant SDG icons.
- Add descriptive alternative text for each icon. For example: “United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, Affordable and clean energy”
