Creating opportunities for interaction using Slido

Slido is an audience engagement tool available to UOW staff and students. It can be used in synchronous (real-time) meetings and events and features polling and Q&A functionality.

The following video provides an overview of Slido:

Polls use the following question types:

  • Multiple-choice
  • Rating
  • Ranking
  • Word cloud
  • Open text
  • Quiz

Why?

Using Slido allows educators to:

  • check for student understanding in real-time without leaving the presentation
  • allow students in the room or online to provide feedback through live Q&A sessions
  • facilitate class interactions where students can join sessions via a browser, without the need to download additional software
  • use existing templates or create questions and polls ahead of time
  • create polls in real-time during the presentation to adapt to the discussion as needed
  • review responses and analytics after the session to identify patterns or reflect on the sessions
  • previous polling results can be recalled and displayed for reflection and further discussion, e.g. in a KWL analysis.

Visit the Slido website for information on other use cases.

How?

Slido can be used in multiple ways via integrations, below are three common use cases at UOW.

Note: To log in to Slido, you should use the Log in with Webex option and your UOW details.

Slido polls can be added into PowerPoint presentations.

When the slide with the Slido poll is displayed, students can scan the QR code or enter the code on the Slido website.

Interactions and responses will display on the slide in real-time, without the need to navigate away.

Note: Only one Slido poll can be added to a single PowerPoint slide. To add more polls, simply add them to additional slides in the PowerPoint presentation.

For detailed step-by-step instructions, refer to How to use Slido for PowerPoint.

Note: Slido is only available in scheduled Webex meetings. It will not appear as an option during calls.

Step-by-step instructions for accessing Slido from within a Webex meeting can be found in the Use Slido in Webex Meetings IMTS Knowledge Base article.

For support with Zoom, refer to the How to Use Slido With Zoom Meetings article from Slido.

Slido polls can be embedded in a website, for example a Moodle site, allowing for pre-work in a flipped classroom model to be done ahead of, and then the results discussed during the synchronous session.
